Teaching
Mr. Schrock decided to become a teacher because a lot of his relatives
were/are teachers.
Teaching experience:
2 years of eight grade language arts and Mathematics in Illinois.
5 years of high school mathematics in Indiana.
4 years of college educational psychology in Montana.
several years of high school substituting in Western Oregon.
And now Mathematics and Psychology teacher in Adrian.
Now
what do you think is his favorite subject to teach? Math or Psychology?
Well he likes both areas. Mr. Schrock is a contrast man.
"I like the contrast in thinking involved in these 2 areas "
For example: in math the rules are set but in Psychology people try to
find out what the rules are.
A perfect example of his interest in both areas are his famous CLSRs. He
tries to use a little bit of psychology in his math classes. He wants the students to learn more efficiently by tying
present ideas with previous learned concepts in an active way.
The goal for the CLSRs is to have students actively build a useful and
efficient personal understanding of any
area they are studying, including math.
Idea for the name closers:
a
relief pitcher
who specializes in closing games, i.e., getting the final outs in a
close game
in Baseball
The mind maps are Mr. Schrock's new Method. He always tries out new
things.
Mr. Schrock describes his teaching goal to be: making students accept
responsibility for their learning and to
demonstrate efficient math techniques.
